At a time when climate change and environmental degradation are becoming increasingly relevant, the LAKESCAPE project emerges as an innovative initiative that merges art, craftsmanship, and ecology in service of restoring lake ecosystems. This one-year project, supported by the Creative Europe programme, unites organizations from Sweden, Hungary, and North Macedonia, focusing on three major European lakes: Vänern, Balaton, and Lake Ohrid.
This one-year project is implemented through a partnership between organizations from Sweden (Transversal Project), Hungary (Pro Progressione), and North Macedonia, represented by the Association INKA Struga. The main mission is to test and promote creative methods that can contribute to the restoration of lake ecosystems and the strengthening of communities living in these rural regions. LAKESCAPE explores the powerful role of art and culture in building healthier lake environments across Europe, with a special focus on sustainable practices inspired by the principles of biosphere reserves.
LAKESCAPE aims to explore and apply creative methods to contribute to the renewal of lake ecosystems and communities in rural regions. The project focuses on:
Building capacity and supporting the craft and design works of 12 European creators, using production methods that are in balance with nature.
Exhibiting creative works friendly to the lake environment and developing a concept for a European floating market that will educate about ecological sustainability through creative practice.
Inspiring and popularizing the creative use of the natural and cultural heritage of the great lakes as sustainable and accessible resources for innovation.
Open Call for Creatives

By May 12, 2025, LAKESCAPE invites interested artisans and designers to apply to the open call: https://lakescape.eu/opencall. Selected participants will receive a full scholarship that includes:
