This week, SCS Centar Jadro invites us to two insightful evenings that promise to inspire and provoke thought among lovers of contemporary art. These events, part of the ongoing series In Dialogue: Macedonian Visual Artists, bring together artists from different generations who have made significant contributions to both the local and international art scenes. The conversations are moderated by Dr. Ana Frangovska, a distinguished curator and art historian.

Goce Nanevski: Sculptor of Boundaries

The first evening features Goce Nanevski, a multidisciplinary artist whose work transcends traditional forms. Born in 1974 in Skopje, Nanevski's artistic journey began with a focus on sculpture, installation, and large-scale objects. Over time, his practice expanded to include elements of kinetics, sound, ambient environments, photography, performance, and video art. His works often integrate perspectives from sociology, anthropology, politics, and even mechanics and electronics, creating a dynamic interplay between form and concept.

Nanevski’s career is marked by significant achievements, including participation in the 53rd Venice Biennale. As a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje, he continues to inspire new generations of artists. His art challenges viewers to reconsider the boundaries of traditional media, making him a fitting subject for this dialogue.

Vana Urosevic: Organic Forms and Uncommon Materials

The second evening features Vana Urosevic, an artist renowned for her exploration of unconventional materials and techniques. Born in 1961 in Skopje, Urosevic’s work spans painting on silk, objects, and installations, often incorporating organic elements such as fur, bones, and insects. Her projects also include photographs, documents, and textual narratives, creating a multidimensional approach to art-making.

A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Urosevic has exhibited in prestigious venues worldwide, including Paris, Vienna, New York, and Venice. Her deeply experimental practice not only expands the language of contemporary art but also invites viewers into dialogues on nature, humanity, and memory.
Ana Frangovska: A Guide Through the Creative Process

Both evenings will be moderated by Dr. Ana Frangovska, a prominent figure in the Macedonian art world. As a senior curator at the National Gallery of North Macedonia and a lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje, Frangovska has made her mark as an insightful interpreter of contemporary art. Her expertise spans decades of curatorial projects, including representing North Macedonia at the Venice Biennale. Her ability to bridge historical and contemporary perspectives ensures these conversations will delve deep into the essence of the artists' work.
